FIGHT LEUKEMIA  - JOIN THE NATIONAL BONE MARROW REGISTRY

Terry Farrell saved lives every day as a member of the FDNY until he died during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.  But Terry didn't only save lives while on duty.  In 1993, he saved the life of Chantyl, a six-year-old girl suffering from T-cell lymphoma, by donating his bone marrow for her life-saving transplant.  Terry registered to be a marrow donor in 1989 after his nephew was diagnosed with leukemia.  While not a match for his relative, Terry, through the National Marrow Donor Program Registry, turned out to be a match four years later for a stranger, and he gave the gift that saved Chantyl's life.

Can you be a match?  Would you give the gift of life?

The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California is proud to be a part of the National Marrow Donor Program Registry.  Supporting the RAY OF HOPE, join us for a memorable event on February 19th in HOLLYWOOD!

The Ray of Hope Benefit has three main goals:

  • Raise funds for the Raymond Sisante- Ray of Hope Fund- Helping Ray deal with the financial expenses incurred during and after this epic battle with Leukemia. Read Ray's Story Click Here.
  • Increase Participation in joining the Be the Match National Donors Registry to potentially save someone's life.
  • Raise funds for Asians for Miracle Marrow Matches (A3M) and CaringBridge.

Sacramento 9/11 Stairclimb - 2009

Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California Board of Director Andy Yamamoto participated in the FIRST Memorial Climb hosted by Sacramento Metro and Sacramento Area Firefighters.  The event was held on September 11th, 2009 and featured 343 participants.  Each participant had a “fallen” firefighters name on their jacket and climbed 110 floors in honor of the 343 FDNY Firefighters who perished 8 years ago.

Brian Farrell, Chairman of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund and Terry’s brother, surprised Andy by sending him a FDNY Jacket with Terry’s name on it.  “It was a real honor to participate in this event.  Representing Terry on the climb was an incredible feeling” stated Andy Yamamoto.

Look for the second memorial climb on September 11th, 2010.  Reservations will start on July 1st, 2010.

2009 California Firehouse Cookbook Contributor Injured

On September 4th, 2009, Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California Board of Directors Mike O'Connor and Jim Colston were honored to meet with Keith Coffey, a Rialto Firefighter and 2009 California Firehouse Cookbook recipe contributor, who was recently injured in an off-duty accident.  Also on hand were several members of his personal and professional family including his aunt and cousin along with members of the Rialto Fire Department and Rialto Professional Firefighters Union Local 3688.

The 2009 California Firehouse Cookbook is comprised of recipes from California firefighters which includes Keith’s Mexican Cornbread and Doubt Cake.  Keith donated his recipe knowing 100% of the proceeds from the cookbook will stay in California and be used to support the mission of the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund.  Keith didn’t know that he would be a recipient from the Cookbooks success.

“This is what the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund is all about.  Here we have a selfless firefighter who contributed to our fund knowing it would help our local firefighters.  What an honor it is today to be here with Keith and present him with a monetary donation from the fund” stated Jim Colston with the Terry Farrell Fund.  Keith also received a cookbook signed by several recipe contributors who were on-hand at the September 2nd kick-off.

Although Keith’s significant injury make slow him down a bit, the Rialto Fire family and the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund looks forward to seeing him back in the kitchen soon!

For more information on Keith and how you can help, contact Nash Briones Sec/Tres for the Rialto Professional Firefighters at (909) 841-3375.

2009 Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund - California Firehouse CookBook Kickoff

Firefighters can handle the heat both on the job and in the kitchen. Now you can serve up some of the same crowd-pleasing recipes that have quelled firefighters’ appetites for generations. By purchasing the new Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund California Firehouse Cookbook, you’ll get dozens of firehouse favorites – while also benefiting these local heroes and their families.

Created by the Fund and Jim Beam® – the world’s No. 1-selling Bourbon – the cookbook is now available for purchase in our web store. Jim Beam will donate a portion from the sale of each cookbook to the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund.  To celebrate the cookbook release, Jim Beam and the Fund will hosted a kickoff party for the firefighters who contributed a recipe on Sept. 2 at the All American Grill in San Diego.

Our guest of honor was Keith Young, a FDNY Firefighter who submitted five recipes.  Keith is a well-known chef who has been seen on the Food Network and several talk shows.  Also honored and recognized for the Cookbook concept and putting the recipes to print were Sheri Haupt and Paige Guzman from Beam Global Spirits and Wine.  In addition to several recipe contributors, other guests in attendance included members of the San Diego Emerald Society, San Diego Wind & Fire MC, and representatives from the USS Midway!

A heartfelt thanks to all who attended and continue to support our Fund!

Jim Beam and the Terry Farrell Fund to release FIREHOUSE Cookbook!

August 1st, 2009

According to the FDNNTV website:

Always seeking creative means of raising awareness for the fire service charity, Jim Beam and the California Chapter of the Terry Farrell Fund partnered to develop “The Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund California Firehouse Cookbook and What Inspires Our Local Heroes”.  Slated for a September 2009 release, the special cookbook contains fifty recipes submitted by firehouses across the state of California, and will be sold to raise funds for and awareness about the charity.

Sheri Haupt of Beam Global Spirits and Wine explains her company’s involvement in this project saying, “We are trying to come up with creative ways to help our local heroes, to help these firefighters raise money and we thought this was a great opportunity, again getting their other skills out there other than just firefighting, and getting the communities involved, and having some fun with it.”

Demonstrating the preparation of “Pollo Asado Taco Salad”, one of the recipes that will appear in the cookbook, Mike O’Connor of the Escondido Fire Department explains that cooking is an important part of firehouse life in California and across the United States.  In his fire department he says, “The crew gets going.  We assign someone to cook or they volunteer.  Usually the youngest guy volunteers or the older guy will volunteer with him and teach him some of the recipes that have been long in the firehouse.”

O'Sullivan's Fundraiser with FDNY Pipe and Drums!

On July 23, 2009 we had a great night of fundraising at O’Sullivan’s Irish Pub in Carlsbad California.  What a night - to see the San Diego County Firefighters Pipe and Drums, San Diego Emerald Society & the FDNY Bag Pipers & Drums all playing in unison.  In attendance were Firefighters from across San Diego County, members from FDNY, along with the FDNY retirees and San Diego Fools.  We rocked the night away and raised $2,000.00 for the fund!  During the event, the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund of California presented a $500 check to the North County Firefighters Pipe and Drums who have played at several Terry Farrell fundraising events.  Jim Beam and Jim Beam girls also supported the event.  A special thanks to those who hosted the FDNY brothers, John Williamson and his crew.  To all the North County Firefighters, we say Thank You!
